Living Life

Sometimes we all spend so much time just getting through life's obstacle course.
We forget what it's like to really live and not just exist.

It was so much easier to live life to the fullest when I was younger.

No husband.
No kid.
No house that seems to suck the very life out of me.

From the age of 19 to about 25 I was a nomad.

I moved whenever to wherever I wanted
whenever the hell I felt like.

People may have called me a slacker
But I never stayed at one job for more than 6 months.

I worked.
I just got tired of the place of employment.
So, I found something else.

I did a lot of stupid shit.
Also known as the salad days.

I think my parents were shaking their heads
and wondering what was going to become of me.

I didn't care.
I was living my life on my own terms.

Sometimes I miss the old life of no responsibilites.
But, I can't turn back the clock.

And I am not sure I'd want to.
Some of the stupid and thoughtless things I did make me cringe.

Getting robbed at coffee- point is something I will never want to relive.( story for another time)

That or my unintended pregnancy/miscarriage.

Currently living my life consists of getting up at the ungodly hour of 6 am and trying to think why.
I also try to find something to laugh about every day.

Life should be about having fun.
There doesn't have to be anything meaningful or deep in our existence.

If you aren't enjoying life, you are not really living.

"People who see life as anything more than pure entertainment are missing the point. "- George Carlin

  1. I sometimes wish I could go back to my youth as well.

And I love that Carlin quote, that guy is one of my all time favs. And I actually got to meet him.

  2. I know what you mean about wishing we had less responsibilities. For myself, I tell myslef I will have fun after I do the dishes and vacuum, and then I play a video game. Then after I clean the bathroom, I will watch "What Not to Wear." So, I go through life rewarding myself.
Of course if a person has a full-time job, it isn't possible to do what I do. And then if they have kids and a job, it is practically impossible. I think I've written myself into a corner! I say, "Good luck to everyone finding some fun."

  3. I think it's good that you look for things that make you laugh. Enjoying life should be the most important thing.

That's why I stop to admire the change of color in the mountains, the beauty of someone's smile.

It can be the little things that make life livable. ;-)

Belle,It is harder when you work and have to take care of kids and a house. But, you just have to take the fun where you can find it.

Misha, you are so right. It is indeed the little things.

  6. Life is full of good, bad, happy, sad, fun, drudge...how we chose to handle it all pretty well determines if we truly live life or just exist. Personally, I like living life to its max, and I can do that no matter what my circumstances are. Very good post.

  7. I'm similar to you. I did all kinds of jobs when I was younger, cleaning factory chimneys, department store Santa, store detective, crane driver. It was great but as we get older we get more settled. Still got to laugh though.

  8. Baygirl, yes, it is.

Thanks Yvonne. Sometimes it is hard to be upbeat- Honeyman can be quite negative.

Tony, yes, you do have to laugh.
