The A-Z

I wasn't going to do it this year.
I really wasn't.
I struggled last year and with the stress of the last few months, I really didn't think I had it in me.

But, Jenny over at Pearson Report, talked me into it.
So, we will see what happens.

Be prepared for whatever may come.

Ten Things Tuesday- All About Purple Day

For those who don't know, Tuesday March 26 is Purple Day.
This week's ten things Tuesday is about Purple Day and what it means to me.

1. Purple Day is about awareness for epilepsy.
It's not about donating or buying things. It's about people learning what it is by wearing purple.

2.Started by a girl
A 9 year old in Canada started Purple Day a few years ago and it's just about wearing purple on March 26. If lots of people wear purple, someone wonders why and asks and learns something.

3. My daughter had childhood epilepsy.
     She outgrew it, thankfully.

4. There are different types of seizures.
Knowing what I know now, my daughter would have not gone through what she did if someone knew what to look for. To begin with she had absence seizures, and a lot of them. We did not know what they were. Her kindergarten teacher was always on her about staring around and taking so long to get work done.

5. My daughter almost died from continuous complex partial seizures.
Over and over, she had them. It was scary watching her, thinking she was dying. The ambulance crew had to give her paralyzing medication so she wouldn't seize to death.

6. Schedules
She had to be on Dilantin to control her seizures. You learn to do things by the drug schedule since she had to eat when she took them.

7. Always watching
Even bath times were not sacred. I had to watch her in the bath in case she had a seizure. Showers were pretty much out so she wouldn't have a seizure and fall and get hurt.

8. Knowing what is truly important in life
Seeing your child almost die really changes you. It makes you really see that everything can change in an instant. I am lucky I got to wake up from my nightmare. I feel for anyone that never got to.

9. Braces
Life flight had to stick a tube down her throat and in doing so, knocked her front teeth out. The adult teeth grew in crooked because the baby teeth were knocked out and they didn't know how to grow in right. She has spent half her life going to the orthodontist. Finally she is in retainers.

10. Memories
Locked away in my brain is that day. I could tell you that whole day in detail from where I was when it started to the end of the day when I ate a bacon cheeseburger from Wendy's. Some things you just don't forget.

If you think about it and have some purple, please wear some in honor of Purple Day.
Epilepsy is, by definition, 2 or more seizures of unknown origin.

Have an awesome Tuesday!

Ten Things Tuesday- Thoughts About the Pope

Yes, I know I am not Catholic.
But, when it is all over the news, its hard not to get thoughts.
For me, anyway.

So, this week's ten things Tuesday about about what popped in my head when the whole pope thing was going on.

1. Benedict had to turn in his red shoes for brown loafers.
I guess he is stuck in Oz forever.

2. Pope Benedict is retiring.
I bet the new one won't look anything like the Emperor in Star Wars.

3. The new pope wears glasses.
South Park was wrong. The pope can't be a bunny because bunnies have great eye-eight due to all the carrot eating. Than Kiddo says that in Alice in Wonderland, the White Rabbit wore glasses. So, I just don't know anymore.

4.The new pope picked an awesome name.
He named himself after my niece, Francis- a sissy.
OK, she didn't find it too funny. But, it made her mom laugh and that counts.

5. The pope is the right-hand man of God.
So, why do all these men get together and pick the pope? Doesn't God choose who he talks to? What if God doesn't like their choice? Do you wonder if God never talks to the pope and the pope is just making stuff up?

6. Why do people think the pope's views on social issues will change?
No birth control and no gay marriage is how it has always been and a "new" old guy in the robes is not going to change it.

7. Why do people that aren't Catholic care so much about who the pope is going to be?
No one seems to care who is the head of any other organized religion.

8. Just how big is Catholicism anyway?
It's #2. It was surpassed in numbers in 2008, according to the Vatican.
By whom, you ask? The Muslims. Are you feeling "The Crusades"?

9. Do you wonder if each new pope gets a book of secrets?
Maybe he knows where the holy grail is, where Jimmy Hoffa is, and who really killed JFK.

10. The newly elected pope always seems so noble and humble.
Do you think he means it? They all say stuff about not being worthy. Deep down, don't you think they want the popedom? That they are excited they are running the show until death do them part or they retire?

Have a great Tuesday!

Getting Back to It

You know what sucks about taking some time off from blogging to do whatever needs to be done?
Getting back to it.

I told myself I would start back to it Monday.
Than Tuesday rolled around and I had no idea for Ten Things Tuesday.
So, here is it - Wednesday- with me writing about the fact that I don't really have a clue what to write.

I feel that I have neglected this blog a little lately.
I know I have neglected Yummy Stuff A LOT lately.

I mean, it's not that I have just been sitting, idly by.
I did the taxes for my parents-inlaws and my brother-inlaw.
I offered to do them for my PIL.

Little did I know my FIL did my BIL's taxes and when I offered, my PIL accepted for all of them.
Yay!

My MIL thanked me immensely.
My BIL has not, which I was completely expecting.

But, you know those commercials-"Whoo Hoo, look at my big check"?
He's who they are talking about.
Makes me wonder if maybe I should cut my wages and have another kid.

Well, not really.
But, then again....

Not Out

The FIL has made it through.

He's not completely out of the woods, but he is out of the ICU
as of yesterday.

A little over a week ago, he was gone twice for a minute.
But, he came back.

Since then, he has improved each day.

He's bound and determined that this won't beat him.

He will have to go into rehab therapy, which will be several months.
So, he won't be home for a while.

I just wanted to let all who wondered what was going on.
