It's a Weighty Issue

There are two types of people in this world.

The ones that don't care one bit about what they weigh and the ones that do.
Some of those people pretend they don't but really they do.

I am one of those people that cares.
Because I could stand to GAIN a few pounds.

Normally you hear about the people that bitch and moan about how hard it is to LOSE weight and how they hate people that can drop weight so easily.
And God forbid, I mention that I can't gain.
"You're so lucky".

Cause, it's nice having hip bones stick out.

I can eat whatever and don't gain.

I can eat all the 1-2-3-4 peanut butter cookies or flourless peanut butter chocolate chip cookies I want, but that does nothing.

Several years ago, I was a little on the heavy side.
So, I started to lose weight.

And I did.
I got to where I wanted and I thought it was all good.

I got all healthy and eating the right foods.
Figured that more money in good food, less in getting sick and doctor bills.

But, I lost some more and I am going to bitch and moan about that.

It's not easy trying to lose, but the same is true if you need to gain.

We are all different.
For some people, it is as simple as calories in/calories out.
For others, it is the type of food you eat.
Some people need more carbs and some people less.

I can keep my weight steady by eating more carbs. The tricky part is getting enough to gain what I need without eating stuff I shouldn't.

  1. My Weight Evolution:
When I was younger than ten, I was pretty husky (that's the word Grandma used). Cookies, ice cream? Yes, please.
In my teens, I dieted and lost weight. Why? Girls
When I was in the Navy, I kept my weight off. Why? Because they would have thrown me out. Also...Girls.
In my 30s/40s, still tried to keep my weight down. Still Navy. Still Girls (specifically Mrs. Penwasser). But, the fact that being overweight could lead to health issues started cropping up.
Now? Yeah, yeah, yeah, heath issues. Also, Girls...still (even though, at my age, I'm like a dog chasing a car. If I caught one, I wouldn't know what to do).
But, at 57, I just don't want to buy new clothes if I gain weight.
    Girls? Yeah, maybe, probably.
    What were we talking about?

    1. Al, military doesn't like that kind of thing. My uncle had to lose 50 pounds to get in the army. He finally got out because he had so much trouble keeping it off and he kept getting sick because he didn't weigh enough for his frame. Another uncle had the same thing in the navy.
But, you know, with hip new clothes you just might get some chicks.
What do you think we are talking about?

  3. Eating healthy makes it hard to keep weight on. Goes to show all the crap we eat. I can't keep it on much at all. I have to eat a ton of cashews in order to keep the weight I have now, and those suckers aren't cheap.

    1. Pat, I love nuts. Almonds are my favorite. My husband loves cashews too. Pricey is right.

    2. You may want to rethink that first sentence. People like me would jump all over that. Huh. You know, I think I just did.

    3. Al, that does not surprise me. But, I will stand by my words.

  4. If I quit drinking beer I bet I could lose some weight. Then again who would want to do that?

    1. Jeff, I never have been much of a beer drinker. Some craft beers are OK, but I am more a mixed drink kind of girl.

  5. Ahhh… I'm a calorie in, calorie out gal. If I don't burn what comes in it piles on. I'm pretty active and I don't mind manual labour (yard work, renos, etc) but as I get older I'm noticing it's a tad harder. In other words there are no free for all moments - I am aware of it all… doesn't stop me, though, from having a right royal pig out now and then. Life's short - Eat, Drink and be Merry! :)

    1. Munir, as long as you are healthy that is what counts.

  7. I can understand that being a problem. There are so many factors besides calories - metabolism, age, blah blah blah. My anti-depressant meds increase my appetite, which sucks because I have to do a major cardio workout EVERY DAY or else I'll gain weight.

    1. Robyn, that is so right. Lots of medications cause weight gain or inhibit loss, but most times you never hear about it
      Every day? Poor you.

  8. I'm on the side of having to lose weight but I would happen it is just as hard to gain weight, just never thought of that before, always admired those that seemed to be able to eat everything and anything without gaining where I have to watch everything that goes into my body.

  9. Oh I was called "Bones" when I was a little kid. I was always thin. I got many colds and was often sickly. Over the years I gain a little bit...then a little more. Now I eat healthier (although I have a weakness for sweets and chocolate) but due to my joints problems I am very limited to what I can do for exercise. Menopause, that wonderful crap women have to endure is also rearing its head so I am now Rubenesque:) I have a cousin that can sit in a cream pot and she wouldn't gain weight. It can be tough the other way also and people always judge-they can all go away. If you feel healthy and you eat right and you are not getting sick, you are aok. Oh and, aside from last month, I have not been sick like I used to

  10. The only thing I remember about my hip bone is that it's connected to my leg bone. What's that from???? Oops, googled and got it wrong.
