Sleepy Time

I like sleep.
Sleep is great.

Unfortunately, it also seems to be an illusive bugger.

Naps don't work.
By the time my brain decides to allow for sleepy time
it is time to get up.

Power nap?
Nap for 15 to 20 minutes.
What is this?

My husband does this really miraculous thing.
He lays down and lets his mind go blank and is out.
Right away.

If he is awake for 15 minutes, he calls that having trouble.
I call that quickly going to sleep.

Nights are spent laying trying to get to sleep.
Do I just get up?
But, I am tired.
If I get up and stay up, it takes me that much longer to get to sleep.

I finally get to sleep.
Then I wake up to pee.
Next comes the alarm.

Two hours later I just want to go back to sleep.
Cause I didn't want to wake up in the first place.

But, I can't go back to sleep because I have things to do
Or, I can't relax enough to fall asleep.

Yet, I can take a bath and fall asleep.
Is that a bad thing?
As long as I don't slide into the water.

Ahhh, sleep.

  1. I know I am blessed to be able to sleep pretty well most nights and I don't have any trouble with naps either- when I really can't sleep I will get up and read or something :)

    1. Lynn, my husband can do that too. If he is hurting and cant sleep, he just gets up for awhile and can sleep fine. You are lucky.

  2. That sounds like me. Once I'm up, I'm up, even if it's 2:00 AM. And power naps? No way! My husband manages to pull them off just fine. I don't get it!

    1. Sherry, they(whoever they are) say power naps are good and refreshing. I don't get it either.

    1. Pat, Cats are so lucky. Sure they have to lick their own butts, but they can just sleep and sleep.

  6. I love sleep, sadly I am stressing behind the scenes of the challenge keeping up with the daily stuff, the designs, the people and then add in 6 double shifts at work, a convention this weekend... we all know how were goin' die, baby... were gonna crash and burn. :)

    1. Jeremy, there is that old saying, "I'll sleep when I am dead." Maybe this is what they mean. I did always think it strange cause if you are sleeping you are breathing and if you are dead, you're not.

  7. I suffer from insomnia from time to time; I always envy those that can fall asleep and stay asleep. I can take a nap and feel refreshed after 15-20 minutes but hard to find the time to do so during the day.

    1. Munir, I think the older we get, the harder it is to sleep well.

  9. My new thing is occasionally drifting off in front of the TV. Then I get my second wind and stay up until 3 am. Hope you get more rest, Ruth!
