Everyone has their favorite time of year.
Spring is my favorite season.
This week's Ten Things Tuesday is all about the reasons I love spring.
It's only two weeks away!
So, in no particular order, here we go:
1. The weather starts to warm up.
It is not super hot yet.
2. The days are getting longer.
Not due to daylight savings time. We all know saying that is why the days are longer is a crock of crap. But, there is more light this time of year.
3. Not a ton of bugs yet.
Love warm weather, but not the bugs that come with. Spring is a happy medium.
4. Gardening time!
You know me. I grow a big garden and it is just about time to plant peas, onion, and cool weather veggies like cabbage and cauliflower. And I get to start planning what all to buy and where to stick it. Where the sun shines, of course.
5. Trees and bushes start to get their leaves.
Last summer it got so dry and hot and I fear for the health of my willow tree. It's not looking so good.
6. No coats OR boots.
Yay! No boots means I get to put the towel away that hangs out on the floor all winter to collect snow. No coats means not getting the zipper caught in my hair because I forgot(or didn't feel like) to put it up. I may need a haircut.
7. Morel hunting
That doesn't come til late spring around here, but it is something to look forward to. Morels are wild mushrooms, for those of you that don't know.
8. Kiddo's braces are paid off!
How awesome is that? An extra $162/month not going out is going to be nice. This month is the last payment. I am a little excited.
9. I get to clean my oven.
It is self-cleaning.( Why is it called self-cleaning? All you do is turn it to a really high temp. so the icky stuff burns off. The oven does nothing. You have to turn it to cleaning cycle.) I never clean it during the winter cause the house is all closed up and I like the windows open when I clean it.
Which is bad when something boils over in the oven. I just throw salt on it and call it good til spring.
10. Rainbow gets to go outside.
She/he( we have never quite determined this) is our red-eared slider. He has a big tank in the house for winter, but he loves it best outside. I like him better out there too. You gotta watch putting him on the ground because he can haul some serious ass. Whoever said turtles were slow never met this one.
What is your favorite part of spring?
I am glad you defined "morel" - I have never heard of it before.
ReplyDeleteAnd I am also happy to be reminded to clean my oven! Thank you!
You are welcome. :)
DeleteSpeaking of "crop of crap...."
ReplyDeleteThe dog's "yard apples" are starting to thaw out.
Better get shovelin'......
And that's the morel of the story....
Ewwww! We don't have dogs but we have outdoor cats and when their crap thaws it smells like we live in a barn.
Deletenever heard it called yard apples. i think it is time to harvest.
DeleteI am glad that kiddo's braes are paid off. My favourite par of sprin is when flowers come out from the sides of the sidewalks even if they are Dandilions. I don't mind as long as they are flowers.
ReplyDeleteI know, isn't it great. She should be getting them off soon too. Flowers are nice. My favorite ones are violets.
DeleteSpring is my favorite time of year too. No snow for many long months! I hope your willow tree is okay. What a sweet turtle. Longer days are marvelous.
ReplyDeleteRainbow seems to talk back when he gets talked to. He opens his mouth like he is anyway.
ReplyDeletei love it when things start turning green. i like the warmer weather too.
ReplyDeleteYeah, we are not cold weather people.
