Never Say Never!

People always say they'd never do something
But when it comes down to it
we don't really know.

Circumstances dictate a lot.
Age plays a part.
Realizing that others are more worried about themselves than what you are wearing plays a part.

When I grew up, I said I would never grow a garden.
I hated all the work.

The weeding
The picking potato bugs off the potato plants.(Where'd they all go? There were tons and now I never see them.)
The hauling all those potatoes down to the basement.

Look at me now!
Huge garden.
I get all excited when spring comes and I can plant.

I also said, I would never live in a small town.
I don't.
But, I am close.
Out in the country- by a small town.

Even the big stuff
we can never say never.

We can say we could never kill.
But, if it is down to you or them you can't be sure what you would do.
Same thing if it is someone you loved.

If you were starving, you'd eat that bunny.
You could say you wouldn't.
Especially if you don't eat meat.
But, if you are starving and your mind starts to go into "Food, food, food!" mode you probably would.

Than again, you might not.

You never know.

  2. Hello! Here from A-Z.
I enjoyed reading your post. I can remember many times (especially as a teen) saying I'd never do... But now I have kids, things change, we change...like you said, never say never. (:

    1. Yes. My mom seems to like to remember me about the things I said I would never do.

  4. I've always tried to live by, "Never say 'never' and never say 'always'."
That little slogan has helped me thr....hey, wait a minute! When you say "never say always" you've violated the "Never say never" part. Crap.
Well, then, I'll just go with, "Never get a nrostate exam from someone named Edward Scissorhands."

    1. I meant "prostate." Comedy is tough when you're a middle-aged knucklehead with stubby fingers.

    2. Better you be stubby fingered than the person doing the exam. Or so I've been told.

  5. My mother always told me never to say "never." To this day I immediately correct myself if the word pops out. I've learned that when you say "never" the Universe takes it as a personal challenge. It's like the law of instant karma and I "never" want to test it again.

    1. Jayne, my mom used to tell me that too. I never did pay much attention to her. Now, I think maybe I should have more.

  6. I like to say you never know until you know, and then you still don't know, you know?

    Be well.

    1. That sounds like the story of my life, Robyn.
I like it. I may have to use it.

  7. Usually the things I've said never about are the very things I end up loving to do.

  10. Everything I said I would never do, I have done. I said I would never be a vegan, and I am one. I said I would never get a dog, and now my little Frankie is my life.

    1. Our little furry buddies complete us. I tried veganism many years ago and I found it hard. I think it might be easier now because there are more choices. I'd still miss my cheese though.
