Healthy Blog Hop- Healthy Fats

I don't do a lot of blog hops, but this one caught my attention. The Get Healthy Blog Hop is hosted by Alex J. Cavanaugh, Stephen Tremp, Diane Wolfe, and Michael Di Gesu.
It is, of course, today and is about sharing what we are doing to be healthy.
As, I am all about health. This is right up my alley.
I have always been interested in doing as much as I can to be healthy and get better if sick without using drugs.
Eat to live is my motto. I have books of natural remedies and home food remedies.
A few years back, I ended up with a copy of The Coconut Diet. I don't even remember ordering it, but it came to my house.
I looked through it and put it down. Later on, I picked it up again and I read it. Really read it.
And it opened my eyes to all the things that I was doing that I believed was healthy and really isn't.
I learned fat, truly healthy fat is not the big bad boogie man.
We all need fat. It's the lubrication for our brains and our bodies.
Coconut oil is not a bad oil. Sure the hydrogenated, refined kind is. But the organic, virgin coconut oil is healthy.
Many of the cooking oils you can buy today are so heavy refined that they aren't healthy.
Lots of people think I am goofy when I tell them that coconut oil is good for you.
That's OK.
It speeds up metabolism, helps your cholesterol, blood sugar, along with blood pressure.
So, the fats I cook with are organic coconut oil, organic, olive oil, and organic butter. Also, some grape seed oil sometimes.
Coconut oil does not taste like coconut. It has a slight coconutty smell, but that is it.
My husband doesn't like eating coconut, but he eats the oil with no problem.
I gave up canola oil a long time ago. It is supposed to be so healthy, but it is most likely GMO and even it is not, it is very heavily refined. At one point it was pretty much all I cooked with.
I feel better since I quit eating it. So does my husband.
There are so many things I could say about what I do to stay healthy, but that could go on and on.
I chose fats because the truly healthy fats get a bad wrap and what have been taught about what healthy fats are comes from flawed studies.
Too much of anything is not good for you. But, at the same time too little fat is not healthy either.
If you'd like to read more benefits of coconut oil, check out mercola.com or just do a search on coconut oil benefits.

Have a healthy day!

Ten Things Tuesday- It Drives Me Nuts

We all have things that drive us nuts.
I'm sure I have mentioned some of them before.
Let's have some fun and share some more.
This time in the art of language.

This week's Ten Things Tuesday is about things that drive me nuts pertaining to words.

1. Bad spelling
There is such a thing as typos and there is just some seriously bad spelling. Bad to the point where it is hard to decipher what the person is really trying to say. It hurts my eyes and brain.

2. Bad grammar
I hate it written and I hate it spoken. If you mean you are, write you're not your or God forbid UR. Ugh!
Don't say y'all to one person. It's just not right. And don't say them when you should say those.

3. Geek speak/Text speak
I speak English, not a bunch of letters. I read all this stuff on facebook and sometimes I can't understand half of it. Why can't you say "that was funny" not PMSL? That's just TMI.

4. Um/Uh
I've mentioned it before. It bears repeating. When I was a kid you couldn't say either one at school. The teacher would stop you and make you speak correctly. Now, unless the president and some actors and TV reporters have teleprompters, they say it all the time. I could just slap these people. I might go to jail, but they deserve it!

5. Memes/Internet pic poster things with wrong grammar or wrong spelling
Why would you not make sure it was right before you put it out there? Be very proud that you spelled nickels nickles and everyone knows you are stupid. Dumbass!
And it is different from #s 1 and 2 because it is very specific and it's my list.

6. Receipts from grocery stores
You get home, go through the list and try and figure out what the hell is LOL butt. When did I buy a laughing butt? Why would I buy a laughing butt? Oooohhh, Land O'Lakes Butter spread with olive oil. Well, that's OK then. I also got some Ass cookies. I think that's the different cookies in the same bag, otherwise known as ASSORTED.

7. Date order
I grew up blissfully unaware that writing month, day, year such as 05/28/2013 was an odd way to do it. Apparently other countries write 28/05/2013 and the US is just odd. Who knew? Whenever I do a survey and I have to do this, I end up mixing the month and day up. Why does our country have to be the odd one?

8. Stupidly long hashtags
I am not really fond of the hashtag though I do understand it. Now. When it first came out, I was clueless as to why people kept using the pound key and writing something after it. Have you seen the overly long ones? Where people use a full sentence all in one word as their hashtag? That's just goofy.

9. The semicolon
Why does this bug me? Because I don't know when it is appropriate to use. I know where it is supposed to go, but when I write a post I never know if I should include it. Does it make me seem to highbrow? Or what if I should have just started a whole new sentence? I'm confused.

10. Calling oneself an inanimate object
You are not a Mac, a PC, a Hy-Vee, or a helpful smile. You are a human. Take note, if you work for an ad agency: it was mildly tolerable when the Mac/PC thing was done. Now it is just pathetic.

Have a great Tuesday!

Look Alikes?- May 26, 2013

I have not done one of these in a while.
It was time.

Random guy at The Gas Lamp, a bar.

Jerry Garcia, singer from The Grateful Dead.

In all fairness, the hubs and I had a few drinks when we saw the random guy.
But, we thought it was spot on!

It Is That Day Again

It's time for another one of my " Don't give a shit" days.

I don't know why.
I had a good weekend.

OK, part of the weekend was great.
A little bit of it sucked.

My mortgage company won't help me.
They called Saturday to touch base with me.
Than told me I got denied because we can afford to pay the payment.

But, I can do a deed in lieu of foreclosure.
What?

If my mortgage is current why in the hell would I do that?

A few months ago, my mortgage got sold AGAIN.
This time I don't even get to talk to someone I can understand.
The call center is in India and half of what they say I have to ask them to repeat.

I looked them up and apparently there are tons of complaints about them.

Ocwen- don't do business with them if you can help it.

What ever happened to getting a loan and having it stay with the same place?
Our bank sold the mortgage.
We refinanced.
They changed their name and than sold it.
That company sold it.
That company sold it.
And that company sold it.

I am not sure that is it, but you get the idea.

But, Saturday we went to a pizza party.
That was nice.

Sunday, I talked to my sister about leaving the PKG since Jesus didn't come this Pentecost either, like he was prophesied by the felon Ronald Weinland and she's gonna stay.
I did see that one coming.
I told her she screwed up her future.
That's my opinion.
Whatever!

Last night we had storms, but nothing bad here.
Chance of storms tonight again.

My dad is starting to feel better.
He still has a specialist appointment in June.
But, he is feeling better and that is good.

Honeyman paid $3.87 for gas today.
That's the cheapy gas.
One channel said 2 refineries in Chicago are closed for maintenance. Another station said problems in one refinery in Kansas and another in Oklahoma are to blame.
So, which is it?

It doesn't matter.
They use whatever excuse they want to raise the gas prices.
So, they get another excuse to raise the cost of groceries and other goods.

I feel there should be a headline somewhere that reads.

GETTING HOSED AT THE PUMPS!

I know gas costs more in other countries and that is because oil companies are subsidized by our government.
It's pretty sad that is costs that much when it is subsidized.

Tomorrow should be a better day.
Hopefully.

Don't Forget to Eat Your Insects

Have you heard what the UN thinks we should do?
Get our protein from the littlest creatures.

No more zapping them with Raid or calling Terminix.

See a roach or a bunch of ants?
Where to turn.

To the fridge, of course.

Grab some butter and the frying pan.
Saute them up.
Real good.

They even have their own website.
Interesting information about edible insects.
It is called minilivestock.org.

OK, they are still working on the recipe portion of the site.
You are on your own on that part.

Who needs cows or pigs when you can dig up some grub worms in the garden?
Beware of pesticides.
You may want to start buying organic.

I Would Like to Get Off Now

Whoever said that life was like a roller coaster was so right.

Sure, it's a nice ride sometimes.
Other times, I'd rather be the tea cups.

Up, down
round and round.

It never ends.

Last Friday the day started out with news of a credit card rate drop.
I was happy.
The afternoon started with a serious call from my oldest sister.
Not happy.
The evening ended with another call wanting to know if I wanted to go out and visit with my other sister.
Sort of happy but sort of not.

My daddy is sick and that makes me sad.
And worried.

I'd like to put all my worries out there, but mum is the word right now.
That's the way he wants it.
Til we know for sure.

So, I wait and I see.
And really wish I had a pound of chocolate sitting right beside me.

I went with my sister to visit yesterday.
I was glad to see Mom and Dad.

I really don't get to see them that much.

Due to everyone's schedules and the rise in gas prices, I don't get to see them as much as I'd like.
It is sad when the price of gas dictates how often you get to see the ones you love.

In other relative news,
my FIL may be getting his toes cut off soon.
He got gangrene when his kidneys shut down.
They are healing better than they thought, but he is still losing the tips of toes.
Better than all of his feet.

I'd Like to Thank

...myself, actually.

I did it people!
I got the credit card rate lowered.

It took quite a bit of bitching
but it worked.

I thought it was all over and no dice.

But, than
a phone call came from the EXECUTIVE OFFICES.

Holy crap!

Of course, they would not speak to me about rates.
The account is in Honeyman's name.

Even with his permission, they won't.
I pay all the bills and know what is going on.
He has no clue.

Now, I know you are wondering how I got so far talking to them before.
I don't know.
I guess since I had all the info. they had to speak to me.

But, whatever.
The guy told Honeyman what the rate could be lowered to.
Honeyman asked me if it would be fine.
And that was that.

Sure, would I have liked it lower yet?
Of course.
But, they lowered it to what the average person has for interest.

The second guy I talked to slipped up and told me what the average rate was.
I stuck that in my brain and used that for future reference.

All I wanted was what was fair.
I got that.

I am feeling pretty good about things.

Next thing on the list.
Lowering my god-awful high interest rate on my house.

Hello May!

Are you there?
Somewhere?

You can see the top of our turtle enclosure. Poor Rainbow had to come back in after some nice sunny days outside.
The snow is wet and very heavy.
One side of the bird feeder is full of snow so the poor birdies can't get any food. They are crowding around the open sides.

And whoever heard of a snow day in May?

Curses You, Credit Cards

Why do all the financial experts tell you to call the credit card companies and ask for a better rate?
You have to be firm.
Threaten to take your business elsewhere.

Does this really work for anybody?
Cause I've tried.
More than once.

Nothing they can do.
Really?

Credit cards are supposed to be a good way to rebuild credit.
I don't know who came up with such a stupid idea.

That works.
If not a thing changes so you can pay it off.

I had plans.

Than I had to buy my third riding lawn mower in 5 years so we opted to get a better one.
On credit.

That's OK.
We're fine.

Than we need to buy new tires for the car.
So we can't pay it off right away.

Than we start paying the orthodontist again.
Higher payments this time.

Less money to pay off mower.

Credit card companies decide to raise interest rates for...
well, just cause they can.

The credit card companies won't lower interest rates,
places don't want to refinance my house.

I really just want to sell all my stuff, pay off my debt, and go live in a cave.
With a bed.
So I can curl up in a ball.

It's just been a really long day.
