Ten Things Tuesday- Hopes For the New Year

Every year New Year's Day rolls around and I am just sure it'll be a good year.
As the year progresses, it just doesn't seem to turn out as great as I had hoped.

This year I am changing my tactics.
Instead of being sure, I am going to be hopeful.

Hopeful is good, right?

This week's ten things Tuesday is about things I am hopeful for in 2013.

1. I'd like to win some money.
Publisher's Clearing House is awarding $5000/week forever in February and while that would be awesome, I'll take a sweepstakes win from one of my survey sites.

2. I want a dear loved one to leave a cult.
It's hard to watch someone you love throw her future away on something that she believes in so much and that you know with every fiber of your being is a bad thing.

3. I want to take a monkey water bath.
We are biting the bullet and getting rural water. We will still be able to use the well outside. I have no idea when it will be done. I guess one day they show up and dig. I have not had a really nice, deep, hot bath since the night my well went dry.

4. I want chickens.
I never thought I'd ever say such a thing. But, I'd like fresh eggs and it is not always easy getting over to the farmer that sells us eggs. Getting the chickens are the easy part. Building the coop to keep out the other critters is another story-according to Honeyman.

5. I want my antenna.
I had one ordered. It never came. Now, it will have to wait until it is warm enough to put up. This time, I am going to Radio Shack so I know I will get it. I am so looking forward to telling Directv that I don't need them anymore.

6. I'd like the world to quit being ruled by money.
If that was the case, I wouldn't need my first hope. Everything is about money. It really is hard to do without and as life goes on, it takes more and more.

7. I want touchscreens to go away.
Maybe my household is in the minority, but we all hate them. Give me a button or keyboard any day.

8.  Can everyone just stop with blaming?
When did it start becoming OK to not take personal responsibility? That is the reason I did it. They caused me to be the person I am. Who cares? You did it. Own up! At some point, each one of us has to take responsibility for the actions we take.

9. I want GE products labeled.
You can call it GMO too. And if it has those ingredients, you can't call it natural. We have all been raised that the government is looking out for our best interests. But, the government doesn't know what the effects of additives or GMO ingredients will ultimately do to our bodies. Or they do and just don't care.
Yes, I know we will all die someday. That's not the point.

10. I want my government to quit taking away our freedoms/privacy.
We lose more and more freedoms all the time. Many times the government says that "it's for our own good" and we need to be safer. It is well known that when faced with a choice of freedom and safety, the majority of people will opt for safety. I'd rather have my freedom.
If I want to walk down the street scratching my ass, I'd like to do it without a camera watching.

Have a great Tuesday!

  1. Do like I did and move out of the country. I have more freedom in Asia than I ever did in Canada and the U.S. Besides, it's a lot cheaper! lol Have a great New year!!!

    1. Jeremy, Isn't it funny how everyone here in the US says how free we are and I hear about how other countries actually have more of it? Moving away sounds good to me!

    2. Allow me to jump onboard (it's what I do)....speaking of freedom in "other lands." When I lived in Iceland, I was amazed...amazed, I tell you) at how much freedom they gave you. One of the ones I liked most was the "Freedom to Be An Idiot." Let me explain. At the tops of waterfalls (not Niagara Falls size, mind you, but large), all they had to prevent [idiots] from falling into the water was a CLOTHESLINE. No huge stone walls or barricades 50 yards from the waters edge. Also, on New Years Eve, Icelanders light HUGE bonfires and then walk away. No permits, no fire engines, only people to come gawk. Of course, it would be hard to set frozen lava on fire, but still...can you IMAGINE an American town getting away with that? And, if you were stupid enough to fall over the falls, become part of the bonfire, or drive your convertible into a glacier's crevasse, there was no suing the town. Because you were probably a (wait for it) moron. I can't leave the U.S. right now, though. All my stuff is here.

    3. Al, that is amazing! I can't imagine a stupid person being treated like they were stupid.

    4. On the flip side, they eat rotted sharks heads, too.
And party like Klingons after midnight.

    1. Pat, that stuff is so nasty. I quit eating wheat about a year ago and GMOs before that and I feel so much better.

  4. I really don't like touchscreens that much either. Just for mobile browsing, as actually being away from real computer

  5. Wow girlie, I could have written your list myself, except for one or two. I have Direct Tv, but they're pretty nice out here. I totally get u on the water thing, I do not even have a tub, so I' ve harping on my husband to build another bathroom, I think this is the year...this better be the year...lol. # 8 is my favorite, that's what I tell my kids all the time, nobody cares why you did this or that, you did, so own up to it and deal with it. Here's hoping all your 'hopes' will materialize, especially #1 :)

  8. I am all for # 6 and #10. I hope that you will get to find some chickens to raise. They are tons of fun. My Mom had them in India, ( this was long time ago ie when I was a kid). Also your concern about your loved one is not without reason. Any group of people (even some religious ones) are not genuine if they are financially draining their members. My families and my warm wishes to you and your loved ones for 2013:)

    1. Munir, my grandma used to have chickens too. I'd help her collect eggs. The cult is legally a church, but the only one seeming to get helped by all the tithes and donations is the leader and his immediate family.

  9. Definitely a positive way to start a brand new year! Love the word and your 10 things listed! I have just started learning about GMO's and what I have read sounds like it is part of some my problems (I'm not blaming it though :) I had gestational diabetes problems when I carried my kids and late in the summer joined the millions of others who are sticking our fingers several times a day. My sugar is currently being monitored and controlled by diet. I have been reading on gluton free. I like a piece of bread with my meal, but found bread causes a spike in blood sugars. Sorry to go on and on! Great Post Definitely enjoyed reading it!

    1. Gossip_Grl, since I quit eating wheat and I end up having something with a little wheat in it I don't feel so good. I don't crave sweets like I used to. Too many carbs really spikes my blood sugar.

  10. I want to keep reading your blog for the next 12 months and beyond.
I hope that's not too much to ask.
If so, I'll settle for that money thing.
