S is for Poo

Did you know that some people don't sh, uh I mean, poo?
I am not sure if it's a fad or part of a larger movement.

People are just choosing not to poo.
It is actually called the "no-poo movement".

Poo is not good for you.
Or so these non-pooers say.

And not pooing makes the environment down the drain less toxic.

Just use baking soda and vinegar and the need of poo is gone.

Sure at first you will be all gross.
But that goes away.
Just think how much you will be doing your part to better your life and aquatic animals everywhere.

    1. I clean with vinegar and baking soda. Not so sure I could give up my shampoo though.

  2. This was so creative and fun to read! I've seen some no-poo shampoos, but still prefer the traditional ones! Julie

    1. Thanks, Julie. It sounds interesting, but my hair is a smell sponge. I would worry about that.

  3. I hate to wreck a delightfully witty piece by getting all serious on you, but I have to confess - I'm a non-pooer. It's been 8 months since I last shampooed my hair, (does that sound gross or what?) but it has never looked healthier. There was a bit of an adjustment period while my hair rebuilt the sebum layer which shampoos strip off, but the shiny, healthy curls I have now were worth it.

    1. That is what a lot of comments under the article say. I worry about how my hair would smell. I know the vinegar is supposed to get rid of any, but what does you hair smell like? I am curious.

    2. Baking soda is a deodorant so it will get rid of any smells in your hair and the cider vinegar rinse looses it's scent as your hair dries. My hair has no scent.

    3. That is good to know. My hair seems to get drier and drier all the time. It used to just be in the winter and now it is all the time. Maybe it's from the shampoo?

  4. WOW! I so thought this would be about something else. I was thinking it was a weight loss article and I thought...wait, I've usually heard the opposite in terms of weight loss.

Too cool! Well, I try to use organic shampoo with natural ingredients, but I'm not sure that makes any difference in terms of the environment. It is definitely something to consider, though!

    1. Organic is better than a lot of what is out there.

  5. You had me too! HAHA... hilarious! I use vinegar for cleaning the house but...I don't think for my hair. Maybe someday. Never say never. :)

  8. Ohhhhhhhh.....SHAMpoo.
I thought you were talking about something else. I thought that, instead of writing s**t, you chose "poo."
    Then, I read:
"Just use baking soda and vinegar and the need of poo is gone."
    :-O
    Talk about your serious constipation.
A wheel of cheese would be just as effective.
    And tastier.

    1. Really, why do they call it shampoo? That's like saying fake poo.
I could have been meaning that the combination of vinegar and baking soda would clean out the intestines eliminating the need to poo. It works for cleaning out drains.

  9. Mich less poo for me; did you know all you need is to rinse with hot water once in while? Really!

  10. Whoa. You had me all confused for a second! I'm not going to join that club. I can't stand the smell of vinegar. I definitely would not want that stuff in my hair.

  11. Oh thank goodness for the comments (except Al's) because I was thinking the same as Al. Love that guy, though it's scary when I'm thinking like him.

So, really? People don't shampoo their hair? I see it's working for Kara. My hair's thinning and drying out by the minute. Maybe I should try being a no-pooer.

    1. My hair keep getting drier all the time too. I've also read conditioning your hair with coconut oil before washing keeps the shampoo from stripping your hair of its natural oils.

  12. hahaha, I'm very glad that we finally got to 'shampoo'. ;) I have heard that it does take a few weeks but that your hair gets nice and shiny all on its own, without using shampoo or conditioner. But I dunno, I kinda like my hair smellin' nice. hehe

  14. I shudder sometimes when I think of all the crap we pour down the drain EVERY. DAY. I will check out that link, because I'm sick of most shampoos anyway.

Also, I'm very zealous about NOT using fabric softener--especially the liquid kind. I feel like I just eliminated some useless crap right there. I even ranted about it in blog form once, and that got much more favourable response than trying to coax peeps to use enviro butt wipe.

Oh wait...I'm off on a tangent. Don't mind me.

  16. Al just made my day, and this post really cracked me up. I know someone who did this and had beautiful hair. But it was long which is easier to hide when it is in the greasy stage.

However, while I agree theoretically, I would need to have my hair really short or really long for this to work.

    Fun post!

    1. I guess if it is long, you can put it in a ponytail with no one the wiser.

  17. You really had me going. Instead of not shampooing, why not just use vegan, chemical-free shampoo?
