Is It November Yet?

I'd really like to say November 7th,
but we all know the bitching about who won will commence as soon as the returns come in.

I am going to give it to the 20th before things settle down.
That may be a wee bit optimistic.

I am tired of all the labels and names.
I am tired of being labeled stupid for having a different viewpoint.
I am tired of the stupid people being stupid by calling other people stupid when their facts are skewed by their feelings.

I wish I lived in a country where people actually realized they had more than 2 choices and that voting a different way would not be "throwing their vote away".
If enough people thought this way, it might make a difference.

I hate talking politics with people.
I can do it with Honeyman, because I know it's not going to lead to an argument.

I read this quote on Facebook today.
Tolerance is the virtue of the man without convictions. G. K. Chesterton

I really don't agree.
When is accepting another person's ideas having no conviction?
I don't have to like your opinion or agree, but I will tolerate it.
I will respect it.

I have friends on Facebook that won't be friends with someone that is a liberal(GASP)
or a Rethuglican(Oh no!)

Guess it's a good thing I am neither.

Of course, I am starting to wonder why I am friends with them.
Oh yeah.

I tolerate.
They don't, but that is another thing.

That and I hide their political rants and photos.

Maybe I am getting the meaning of the quote wrong.
But, that is what I get.

Another thing I was thinking of this morning, was something George W. Bush once said.
Either you're with us or you're against us.
This is where US politics is right now.

Two major parties and no one wants to compromise.

I don't believe either one is the answer.

I will vote.
But, I am not holding out much hope that things will actually change.
Well, for the better anyway.

  1. Fantastic! I so want it to be November, too, for the same reasons as you (hey, that rhymes). Plus, there's the promise of eating so much turkey later in the month that my pants will burst. Which, if nothing else, will clear the room of annoying in-laws.

    1. I don't even want to think about Thanksgiving yet. Only because I have to decide whether we are staying home or going to my mother's house.

  2. It kills me that there is such an adversion among our elected officials to reach some compromises. Once elected, whether state or federal, they vote the party line rather than with their own convictions or those of their constituents.

    1. I know. They all act like a bunch of spoiled brats. I used to say vote the man not the party. More often than not anymore, it's one and the same.

  3. I used to get A/plus in political science in college. I am really disillusioned by Democracy. I guess it is better than what is going on in other parts of the world.

    1. In some ways yes and in some ways no.
We aren't as free as many people think we are.

  4. The whole political party system would need to change dramatically for something like that to happen. European nations have 5-10 parties will considerable amount of seats. The "majority" party rarely has more than 30% of the seats in their congress/Parliament.

    1. Why? There are 16 political parties with people running for president plus others that are one the ballot in at least one state. The government doesn't want anyone voting for more than 2 so that is why those are big at the top of the ballot and all the rest are small.
If enough people voted for those other candidates, those parties would be included in debates in future elections. Or that was the way it used to go.
The government is trying to say it is one or the other. It is up to the people to tell the government it is not.

  5. I agree, Ruth! I won't watch TV, answer the phone, or read the political rants on facebook. Tired of it all! Can't wait to cast my vote and be done with it.

    1. Sue, My sister is boycotting Facebook til after the election so she won't start deleting relatives on there. I just hide the posts. I wonder if she doesn't have the better plan. Sometimes it's hard not to tell them they are being an idiot and don't they have anything better to do?

  6. I second your entire post!

I was talking to one of the ladies at work, I don't know how we even got on the subject of politics and she said she didn't vote because she didn't like either of the parties. I asked her why she didn't look up one of the other multitude of options, that's what I will do. She (being in her 50s) had no idea there were other parties other than Republican & Democrat!!

    1. Lisa, they would rather have people not know. Not sure why that is. Even the ones that do know seem to think there is just a third- being Independent- and they say it's throwing your vote away. I call it voting your conscience and that is what it is supposed to be about anyway.
