AS My World Churns

Life has been busy the last few weeks.
After the graduation, I got to concentrate on getting the garden in.

After that, I got to meet my new rheumy.

I was worried cause I really didn't know what to expect.
Especially after the gastroenterologist fiasco.

He did not mention fibro.
But, he did mention ankylosing spondylitis.

He is pretty sure that is what I have.

I had blood drawn and a bunch of x-rays and am waiting on results.

Ankylosing spondylitis, or AS, is auto-immune and will cause my spine, neck, and hips to become stiff and rigid and possibly fusing together. Inflammation is there and may affect my eyes and heart.

It is more common in men. In fact 3 out of 4 cases will be men.
About half a million people in the US have AS.

According to Livestrong.com, women present symptoms slightly different then men and the illness can mimic fibromayalgia or general rheumatoid arthritis.

So, that is where I am right now.

I am not scared.
It is what it is.

  1. Well at least, hopefully, you know what it is. That is half the battle.

  2. I think having a diagnosis and knowing what you are dealing with is better than the unknown, kind of like what Pat said in his comment.
