So, I Pissed Off a Nurse Today

But, you just don't keep trying to get me to agree to something after I have said NO several times.

Remember when you went to the doctor for a diagnosis and a course of treatment was recommended, not pushed on you?

That was a really long time ago.
Even in those days, it took a certain kind of doctor or nurse to be fine with you choosing not to do what they wanted.

I have a brain.
It works.

I even told the nurse why and she didn't seem that concerned.
Her thinking was a different brand of the same type of drug.
Why should I expect differently?
After all, a few months ago, the doctor told me that I wasn't supposed to read the side effects because they are just made up by lawyers.

The medication was supposed to be for my husband so now I get to explain to him that I pissed off the nurse.
He'd rather just take the script and just not take the meds.
I prefer to just tell them, no- not happening.

The end all be all should NOT be "I'll take a pill for that".
And if that pill causes something else, lets just take a pill for that.
And on and on and on.

  1. Nurses can often be rather mean or just rude.

  2. Sounds like you're dealing with a dual-force, and that's incredibly frustrating: stubborn man you love refuses treatment for serious ailment, and our maddening health care system. I'm very sorry Ruth. Sometimes we have to let go and know we did and are doing all we can. But how to do that with someone you love? I don't know.

    1. Robyn, The drugs they want him to take have more bad than good so I am OK with him not taking it. There are ways to adjust his diet to help and that is what we are going to go with. Unfortunately, doctors and nurses don't seem to want to go that route anymore.
And he was fine and said he will deal with them when he has he recheck in a few months.

  3. Well, there is a reason lawyers want the side effects listed; to cover the medical profession's butt. Any time the side effects list WILL cause liver failure or any other finalization it goes in the garbage, as far as I'm concerned. Sorry you are having such hard time.

    1. Yvonne, it's terrible isn't it? I had to take some nasal spray for my allergies and I had a side effect listed so I called the doctor and got told it shouldn't do that and to use it again. Have not used any since.

  4. When I was in the Navy...
The first dentist I went to said it looked like I needed a bridge.
The second dentist I went to said I needed a root canal.
The third said, "Those two are crazy. You're fine."
    I went with his opinion.
That was 16 years ago and I still feel fine.
I believe I made the right call.

  6. Great post on the subject. I am with you on this aggravation. I went for a consult several years ago at the beginning of what they call peri menopause. Immediately they get script hungry. Menopause? Then you must take hormone replacement. Menopause well then you must be depressed. I ripped those scripts up right in the office. Menopause is a natural process so that is the way I went. It's like they sucker you in with one med and then suddenly you wake up and you are taking 5 more.

  7. Gossip_Grl, good for you. Sometimes, I wonder if they don't get a commission from the drug companies.
