More

Here are the latest pictures of the remodel. Here we have started on the walls.
Some things I have learned.

Carrying sheetrock is done best by taller people than me. I can't carry it like other people because from under my arm to the floor is 4 feet- which is how wide a sheet is.
I have to put on hand on the bottom and one hand at the top and carry it while the other person carries it the normal under arm way.

Sheetrock is easy to break. It is actually made of gypsum, which is chalk, and just hitting it with your foot can ruin a corner.

This is the drywall lift that we rented to do the ceiling. You lay a piece on it and turn the crank to raise it to the ceiling.
It would have been nice if the wheels locked.
Ah well, it worked. We have a ceiling.
Lacey has fun running through her "tunnels". Every day she has to go in and see what we have done.

Mudding of the sheetrock has started. Once that is done, along with the wall built, I get to paint.

Besides the remodel, my garden has actually started producing so I am canning and freezing things.

Between the two, I have not had much time to post much. I hope to change that soon.
Sorry for not getting to many of your blogs either.

  1. Knowing from experience how hard this work is, I'm amazed at all you have taken on. The best part will be looking at it over and over again with a feeling of pride and satisfaction when you are finished.

    1. Hi Yvonne. My house is old and needs a lot of work. If it turns out as well as the bathroom, I'll be happy. That's my nicest room and we did that about 5 years ago.

  2. Remodel away, I was happy to find out you're doing fine, just too busy to write for a while. Come back when you're done :)

    1. Sue, wouldn't it be nice if we could just wave a wand and it would be done? I can't wait to be done.

    1. Gail, it is going a little slower than we wanted. But, it's getting there. Things always take longer than you think.

  6. And painting will probably make you feel like you're taking the day off, huh?

    1. Al, I wanna use the floor sander. That will be fun. I've refinished furniture using a handheld sander and I'd like to use a big one. Painting will be good too.

  7. You are certainly ambitious sheet rocking yourself, DB and I hire that done, it just takes us too long and it never looks right. Enjoy the fruits and veggies of your labour!

  8. My husband used to do carpentry work when he was younger so he is pretty good.

    1. Karen, you don't want to. If I had a nice house or a spare grand or two laying around, I wouldn't be lifting it either.

  10. I don't think I will be trying my hand at remodeling any time soon, but planting my very own garden is definitely in the works.

    1. You won't regret it, Nellie. Fresh from the garden veggies are the best.

  11. I hate sheetrock, it's so tough on the visiual surface but it's basically a rock's version of glass.

    1. Yes it is, Adam. I didn't realize it would break so easy.
