I've been feeling a bit out of sorts the last few days.
I thought making a list of what makes me happy would be beneficial right about now.
So, without further adieu...
... this week's Ten Things Tuesday is about what happiness is to me.
1. A hug
Hugs just feel good. They say " I care", " I want you to feel better", or "It's good to see you".
2. Peanut butter and chocolate chips
Grab a bowl, stick in some peanut butter and a big ole handful of chocolate chips and you have quite the treat. You may need a drink. YUMMY!
3. A monkey water bath
Who doesn't love one of those? Check out the link for an explanation. The short version is just a really hot bath. It feels really good and so relaxing.
4. No school
Who would think that at my age I would care about such a thing? I am not an early morning person, but I have a teenager that the state seems to think needs to go to school and the school thinks the bus needs to stop at my house at 7 am. Being the good mom I am, I get up with her and make her breakfast and pack her lunch. Have you smelled the lunch they serve at school? Ugh!
5. Baking
I find it relaxing. If I did it as often as I wanted, the whole family would be extremely rotund.
6. Talking with my daughter
I hear so much about moms and teenage daughters never communicating and it makes me realize how fortunate I am.
7. Seeing my garden grow
I have broccoli starting to head and my cabbage will be soon. I can pick some green onions. My peas are starting to pod( I'm a pod person!). It will only get better from here. Yes, I am just a little excited.
8. Paying the last payment
It just feels so good to be done paying for something. Two months ago it was the orthodontist. This month is Honeyman's student loan. Yay!
9. Seeing my dad
My dad is getting old. He's got emphysema and still smokes. He is more frail every time I see him. I am glad that he is still around. For how long is anyone's guess. I need to be grateful for the time I get with him.
10. Having friends stop by
This doesn't happen too often. Everyone is so busy with their own lives. Plus, we are on totally opposite schedules. Such is life!
What kinds of things bring you happiness?
I hope my kids think the same about #9 as you do.
ReplyDeleteI am sure they do, Al.
DeleteSo neat you have a great relationship with your daughter and actually talk with each other! Treasure the time with your dad; I know you do. LOL about no school; I totally understand; son graduated five years ago, but he was not a morning person; it was always a struggle to get him up and out the door on time.
ReplyDeletebetty
Betty, I know I am lucky with my daughter. She's not a morning person either so it's tough for both of us.
DeleteI also loved it when there was no school it ment I could have a sleep in..........lol not that my girls had to leave as early as yours does but still school morning where busy mornings.........didn't help that my girls where pretty lazy and would take forever to get ready...........lol
ReplyDeleteI am lucky that I see my dad at least once a week some weeks more often the same goes for my mum I see here at least twice a week............
I just went and read what a monkey bath is and you know what that is my normal bath I always have a hot bath
ReplyDeleteJo-Anne, there is nothing like a really hot bath is there?
DeleteI only see my dad every few months. My mom too since they are still married. She is more difficult to be around. I love her, but I don't mind not seeing her very much.
It's a great idea to make a list. I'll do that the next time I'm feeling very down (which is freaking often). I hope you cheer up soon too, Ruth. I loves me a hot bath, and MY GARDEN and baking too! I hardly ever bake though, because we would all be rotund then too.
ReplyDeleteYou have beautiful flowers, Karen. I have bad luck when it comes to those. Not sure why because my vegetable garden does great.
DeleteYou are such a great mom for making breakfast at the crack of dawn everyday! I'm sorry that your dad is so ill, but he is lucky to have such an appreciative daughter. It's great that you have such a wonderful relationship with your daughter, and I love the peanut butter and chocolate combo! Hope this list cheered you up. It worked for me. Julie
ReplyDeleteThanks, Julie. She lets me know she appreciates it. It did help.
DeleteHappiness is sooo many wonderful, yet simple things. Hugs. Hope you find happiness often!
ReplyDeleteLady, it's the little things, isn't it? I hope you do too.
DeleteHeavy sigh. I think I need to make one of these lists. A bit down in the dumps here. I like your style!
ReplyDeleteGail, coming up with things to be grateful for or happy about can help.
Deletewonderful list. i saw Dad a couple weeks ago. made sure to get two hugs in. glad you were able to spend time with him.
ReplyDeleteLaura, We went to get my sweet potato plants. When the fruit on the trees are ready we are planning to help him pick it all. He can't climb a ladder anymore.
DeleteI am going to say that I, too, love monkey water baths. That's just adorable, by the way. I have fibromyalgia and refuse pain meds, so this keeps me safe.
ReplyDeleteNellie, I didn't know that. It's good the baths help. I have a cousin with fibro and she takes morphine for her pain.
DeleteYou communicate with your teenage daughter?!?!! Please, please - tell me how!
ReplyDeleteGreat list, Ruth. Good to remember these things when you're feeling down.
Dawn, Sometimes I won't let her get away with being all sullen and quiet. I bug her til she talks and when she's done, she feels better. Other times she just tells me what's going on without me saying a word.
DeleteI rely on a good monkey water bath daily. Just never knew the name for it. Thanks, Ruth.
ReplyDeleteI hope your spirits are lifting.
Keep faith.
xoRobyn
Robyn, This too shall pass.
DeleteThat's a great list! Flowers and sunshine make me happy.
ReplyDeleteSherry, those are great feel good things!
DeleteI love your list (sorry I took so long to get here)
ReplyDeleteHugs would have to be my #1 happy maker. Especially from my gorgeous boys.
As you know, playing with colour also makes me happy.
Oh Mynx, I've been bad at stopping over to your place too.
DeleteWho can't love a hug? Or colors?
that was a wonderful list especially #6,7,8, and 9 <3
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lynn. It is always good to remember the good things in life. :)
DeletePetting a purring cat lying on my lap is right up there near #1. Eating breakfast on the back deck makes me happy too. I'm glad you have many wonderful things that make you so happy.
ReplyDeleteThose are some good things to be happy about, Yvonne.
DeleteI love this idea of making a list of happy when you are feeling down. The barn and horses are happiness for me. Nothing like coming home dirty and smelling like a horse to lift your spirits. Hope you continue to find happiness in all you do.
ReplyDeleteThank you, GB. I try. I am glad your horses bring you joy.
DeleteI share many of these things w/ you...the baking (love it!), having a great daughter, making the LAST payment (love that), and having a garden (although we've just lost most of our due to pickle worms - ever had those?) Wonderful blessings. Thanks for the reminder!
ReplyDeleteOh, Mare. I am sorry about your garden. Bugs can be so nasty. I have never heard of the pickle worms before. I had to look it up. Worms and borers can sure do a lot of damage.
DeleteGreat list, it is important to remind ourselves of what is important in life. I was out in the garden today just pulling up the weeds, but it was lovely to hear the birdsong and feel the sun and the light breeze on my skin. Have a blessed week. Amanda
