When I served aboard my first ship, the guys in my shop called me Hobbit or just Bilbo. Whenever they had parties, they'd demand that I take my shoes off. To see if I had hair on the tops of my feet. This was also around the time that Randy Newman came out with "Short People."
The resemblance is striking. Great one, Ruth! Thanks for the laughs.
