Happy Holidays!

Yeah, I say it!

Happy Holidays!

I am getting so sick of
" Don't take Christ out of Christmas"
" Say Merry Christmas not Happy Holidays"
" Christ is the reason for the season".

I say "happy holidays" and I am not ashamed to say it.

I said it years ago.
I said it before I had ever met a Jewish person.
I said it before I knew Kwanza was a real holiday.
I said it before my oldest sister embraced paganism.

I said it because I was LAZY.

Yes, that's right.
LAZY

Instead of saying Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year or writing it out, I decided to economize my time and say or write Happy Holidays.

These days I know people are of all faiths.
It's still easier to just give a general "Happy Holidays!".

If I know you and your faith I may say
Happy Yule
Happy(or would it be Merry) Festivus
Happy Hanukkah

Or than again, I may just say

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  1. I agree. I'm lazy too. But I may be paranoid--I have had customers make a point of saying "MERRY CHRISTMAS" at work; kinda feel like I'm being tested. Sorry--when there's a line of 40 people behind you, waiting to be checked out, I am not going to take the time to say "Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year". Uggh.

  2. Sue, I really do not understand why people get so bent of shape about saying something other then Merry Christmas. I always thought it was the sentiment behind the words that mattered. I bet you can't wait until January.

  3. I find myself saying Happy Holidays to people I don't know because I want to respect their traditions of celebration and I have no idea what that may be. But personally speaking, it is Christmas in our house. And I never thought we would live in a time that the name of this holiday would be challenged. Easter is not challenged because non-believers party with the Easter bunny. I don't know why Christmas is any different. If people don't want to acknowledge Christ's birthday all they have to do is party with Santa. A name is a name. I don't understand why people get offended if you say Merry Christmas.

  4. How 'bout...
Seasons Greetings? That may mix it up a bit.
By the way, I'll never party with Santa Claus. That fat bastard will hog all the frikkin' cookies.

  6. Debbie, I never thought about it as people getting offended by Merry Christmas. And I've met people of other faiths- sister included- that don't get offended. They know it is said with good intentions. But, they do appreciate when you acknowledge their own beliefs.

Al, But, I'll sound like a greeting card.
That's why you always have your Christmas parties on Christmas Eve. He's too busy to come.

Robyn, I know you do. :)
