Potatoes and Such

'member a long time ago when I was writing about going to plant potatoes?

It was back at the end of the A-Z.

You don't remember?

That's OK.
Cause I do.

After all, they are my potatoes.
Sure, you plant them and pretty much leave them be til the plants die.
But, you just can't forget completely.

The time has come to start digging.
I have been digging a few hills here and there.
Digging them as they die and also to save my back.

Aren't they beautiful?

In other, unrelated news, one of my favorite uncles deleted me on Facebook for being OK with same sex marriage. I really did not see that one coming. And yet, he did not delete my husband. Which, seeing as how we have been married for quite some time, you would think he would realize we just might share the same view point.
Oh, well. Sucks to be him. He is just going to be missing out on the awesomeness of me.

What else?
Saw my rheumy Tuesday to go over tests. No fusing or erosion, but degenerative change. Most people do end up with some degeneration as they age, but it also leads the dr. to think that AS is happening. The meds seem to be working so no mri right now.

Family reunion is Saturday. Fun times to be had by all.

I have missed a lot of posts lately and I got some making  up to do getting around to everyone.

Have a great day!

    1. Pat, I know! I am quite excited that my potatoes did so well. I may be turning into the feminine version of my father.

  2. Is this uncle going to be at the family reunion? He doesn't deserve your facebook "friendship" anyway. Maybe you can casually make him fall into a cake or on his arse.

Glad to hear the good health news, Ruth.

    1. Yes, Robyn, he will be there. Been trying to decide how to play it. I like the way you think. Thanks.

  3. If life gives you potatoes...make french fries!! :)
I grew purple potatoes this year. The plants are huge right now. Can't wait to see how they turn out.

    1. Jeff, I hope they turn out great. I have seen blue ones, but never tried them. Let me know.

  4. Your potatoes look great! Lots of hard work with them! Hubby and brother planted potatoes when they were younger, in elementary school, because they lived on a large plot of land. They got tired of digging them out, LOL, even when selling them for 25 cents a bag (back then I'm sure that was lots of money, LOL). I have decided on key issues happening in the world these days not to get offended if someone doesn't share my view and not to even discuss it if it is going to cause a fall out in relationships. I can't change someone's view, they aren't going to change my view. Sorry about your uncle not having a similar thought. Do enjoy the reunion!

    1. Thanks, Betty. I remember picking up potatoes and carrying bucketfuls down into the basement when I was a kid.
      I will do my best.

  5. The potatoes look great and red potatoes are the best for arthritis. My hubby has RA and his Dr told him to eat the red potatoes as there is some anti-inflammatory stuff in them. If the family reunion will bring your Uncle...it will be interesting and it is his loss. Even if he disagrees with your viewpoint that is no reason for that type of action

    1. Birgit, that is good to know. I have heard they are lower in starch, but not about anti-inflammatory stuff.
Apparently, he feels that strongly about it. So be it.

  6. It must be wonderful to have enough land to grow all kinds of veggies. How do you store that many potatoes...root cellar? Everyone should be allowed their own opinions about issues without fear of retaliation. Maybe when he figures out your husband is on the same page with you, he'll reconsider...or maybe not. You'r a tough cookie, so you'll weather it fine. Our families never had reunions. It must be a blast to touch base with all your relatives in one place. Enjoy.

    1. Yvonne, I keep mine on my back porch where it is cooler. I do have a cave, but the cement is cracked so nothing is put down there anymore. If I could, I would put them in my basement, but it is not a good place to keep food.
I think that when the older generations are gone, so will the reunions. No one seems to want to help put in the work.

  7. Yeah. Your uncle at the family reunion.
    Awkward.
What an abysmally STUPID reason to cut you adrift.
By the way, I'm all for same sex marriage. Who people want to marry is their own business. Love is love.
Personally, the thought of kissing another dude is kind of gross. Then again, Mrs. Penwasser kisses ME. And she's not revolted.
    Crazy person.

    1. Al, I do not understand a lot of it. I also had an aunt that proclaimed that she would unfollow anyone with the rainbow profile pic. As far as I know she never did. I don't go on a delete spree over religious or political differences. But, to each his own.

    2. To be that hard over on a particular topic that you'll cut friends and family adrift is, in my mind, dumb.
Unless you're an advocate of competitive "Pulling Wings Off Flies."
Then, that's not only dumb. It's cruel and weird.

  8. Oh, I remembered your potatoes. I'm still envious. If I had something more than some pots and a balcony, I'd be growing them too.

This time of year I'm the one doing the deleting on Facebook. Oh, that one girl I kinda knew in high school won't stop posting articles about Donald Trump finally laying the smack down on "those damn beaners?" Click - goodbye!

I'm not one to go on delete sprees over religious or political differences, either, but when someone's spreading idiotic toxicity I refuse to be a part of it, even just by reading it. Negativity only begets negativity.

    1. ABFTS, You can container plant potatoes. You could use a tote or a whiskey barrel planter and they will grow.
Yeah, I have many relatives that are big supporters of Trump, Walker, Huckabee and the like. I am pretty sure my sister supports Hillary, but she doesn't post anything and I really don't want to know. I have blocked certain websites from showing up in my feed. Inflammatory bullshit is what I call it.

  9. I've never grown potatoes - one day I will. Right now, everything is dying due to the drought. BTW, my brother-in-law unfriended me the other day because he was arguing with one of my friends on a post I did. Here he is, calling her names and he does not even know her. So I came to her defense and called him out and he unfriended me. No love lost. He's a argumentative person anyway. So I unfriended his wife who does everything he does and blocked them both. HA HA, I can play this game too. :-)

    1. Coffee Lady, My cousin's wife live in San Gabriel and she has a nice flower garden. She has to water all the time. I mean, it looks nice and everything, but isn't the drought a state wide problem, not just certain areas?
