What if you knew me
really knew me
deep down inside
What would you do
Would you still want to be my friend
Would you think less of me
Would you turn your back on me
What if I told you that
I believe abortion should be legal
and it's not a baby til it can breathe on its own.
What would you say
What if I told you that
I believe in conspiracy theories
and I don't believe the government has the best interest of the people
Would you look at me odd
What If I told you that
I don't believe in the same God you believe in
or maybe I don't believe in one at all
Would you think you had to save me
What if I said to you
I am gay
or maybe bisexual
Would you want to hang out with me
What would you do
If I disagreed with you
If I really shared who I am
Would you still be there?

This poem was inspired by the thought of anyone who is afraid to be who they really are because of how other people may react.
It wouldn't make a difference to me!
ReplyDeleteThat's good, Susie. I know people that think differently.
DeleteSince I'm a liberal pro-choice agnostic non-theist democrat who's marched in a pride parade three yeas in a row I can't say I have any problems with those. I'm personally not big into conspiracy theories though (depends on which ones you know though), while some do have some merit a lot them are far-fetched.
ReplyDeleteAdam, it's always good to be open minded. I don't know why every one can't accept other people's opinions.
DeleteOf course! You are a person and the rest is what you believe. That is what makes each of us so individual and special. Now yes so many people are judgmental trust me, I'm from West Virginia so I know the ignorance of many. Sometimes I just have to say, "Cast the first stone"
ReplyDeleteGossip_Grl, that is exactly why I wrote this. I know so many judgmental people. It can be as simple as voting for another candidate.
DeleteOh I hear ya on the judgement day. :/ At times I write a post on the hillbilly/redneck side of me and I can't count the number of times I receive in email from one particular reader of my blog crap pertaining to inbreeding which I can shake off because one it shows ignorance of society because inbreeding is not allowed in this state- ever. Now in a few states it is allowed, but in WV it was never allowed. I've tried educating that particular reader but it goes to show that society accepted movies from Hollywood (specifically the Wrong Turn movies) as that of how we are in WV. :/
DeleteNone of this matters to me so long as you're a good person. I think people are quick to label one another just because of one particular belief, which is really narrow minded. One simple belief doesn't define someone as a whole.
ReplyDeleteABFTS, I agree totally. Sometimes I get irritated when someone makes a comment about someone being a lesbian like it is horrible and a huge deal. My niece is bisexual so I just have to tell myself to just let it go.
DeleteYour my kind of peeps, for your honesty and sass. We also happen to be on the same page politically, and that's a bonus. I'm not going to say ideology doesn't matter to me. It does. I don't like haters.
ReplyDeletexoRobyn
Robyn, there are times I would like to be more honest than I am. For the sake of family harmony, I keep quiet. And just because they won't respect my opinion doesn't mean I am not going to respect theirs.
DeleteThanks. I am happy to be your kind of peep.
I would clap my hands if you were gay or bisexual. I might whoop as well if you were bisexual, that's cooler than gay! :-)
ReplyDeleteGorilla Bananas, Sorry to disappoint you. I know some, but that is about as good as it gets.
ReplyDeleteNo difference to me! Internet high-five! :)
