Ten Things Tuesday- What's in a Name?

People don't always go by their given name.
Some people go by their middle name or change it altogether.

This seems to be a popular thing with celebrities.
They change things up, just cause they want to.
Sometimes before fame.
Sometimes in the middle of it.

That is what this week's Ten Things Tuesday is about- changing names.

1. Prince
He had contractual problems with Warner Brothers and changed his name to Prince logo.svg. He called it The Love Symbol but everyone just called him The Artist Formally Known as Prince. As soon as his contract was up, he went back to Prince.

2. Jackee
First she was Jackie Harry from the TV show 227. She always said her name really big- Jackee and everyone knew who Jackee was so she changed it to Jackee Harry. Later, she dropped Harry and just went by Jackee. Most credits these days have Harry added, but she goes by both.

3. Snoop Lion
First he was a Dogg, but late last year, Snoop had enough. No more Snoop Dogg. Hello, Snoop Lion. Not sure, but he may have been high when he thought of this. But, he was probably high when he came up with Snoop Dogg in the first place. You know Dogg. Oops, I, mean, Lion.

4. John Mellencamp
He started out as Johnny Cougar. Than, he went to John Cougar. Than, he added his real last name Mellencamp. Finally, he just dropped Cougar.

5. Diddy
First he was known as Puff Daddy. I have also heard the name Puff Puff thrown around. After that, he changed it to P. Diddy or just plain Diddy. When he tries to be more than just a rapper, like in those Macy's commercials, he is known as Sean Combs.

6. Mark Wahlberg
Before he started acting, Mr. Wahlberg was a rapper. He had his very own Funky Bunch and he was known as Marky Mark.

7. Chad Johnson
He's a player in the NFL. His number was 85 with the Cincinnati Bengals so he changed his last name to Ochocinco, which is 8 and 5 in Spanish. He kept it that way for 4 years before changing his name back to Johnson. As a side note, Honeyman always called him Ochostinko.

8. Cher
She was born Cherilyn Sarkisian. Her first single was under the name Bonnie Jo Mason. Later on she had another song released under the name Cherilyn. When Sonny and Cher first started out, she was Cleo. They were Caesar and Cleo. Soon, they became Sonny and Cher and she has gone by Cher since.

9.  Dwayne Johnson
Before he was an actor, he was a professional wrestler. That just means we was an actor with spandex and he had names like The People's Champion, The Brahma Bull, The Great One, and The Rock. When he is acting in movies- it's Dwayne, when it's in the ring- it's The Rock.

10. Jefferson Starship
First they were Jefferson Airplane. Later they went high tech and became known as Jefferson Starship. The founding member left and took Jefferson with him so it was Starship.
At one point, there was a reunion with most of the members of Jefferson Airplane and they reformed for a while. As Jefferson Airplane.
After that, the founding member of Jefferson Airplane came back to Starship and called it Jefferson Starship- The Next Generation. We just called it Jefferson Starship.

Have a great Tuesday!

  3. Interesting. And Cher finally just went back to an abbreviated first name which I think was best for her.
