Taking a Breather

The reunion went well.
Afterward, I stopped over at Mom and Dad's and I helped Dad pick his tomatoes.
Holy moly, that is a job all by itself.

The remodel is still going on.
My bed is still in the livingroom.
Things are still all over the place.

Wherever it fit, it went.

It took three days just to tear out all the plaster and slats.

Never let it be said that I am not a hard worker.

I got hit in the head with my pry bar and the general consensus is that I may have gotten a slight concussion.
I know, I know.
Way to go, Ruth.

It's all good.

We have new windows and insulation!

This gives you an idea of how badly the room needed done.

Turns out there was a door to outside at one time and it was plastered over. We also found a couple spots where doors were changed from the large sliding into the wall kind to the ones on now.
The doorway in this picture will be gone.
A wall is going there- along with a new closet.
We moved the door to another wall.

I had forgotten how much fun this remodeling stuff was.

  1. I am impressed. Where does someone learn to do this kind of stuff?

  2. Can't say I am a huge fan of renovating but hey, if you enjoy it, go for it.
Hope you will post the after pics for us all to drool over too

    1. Mynx, I like the rebuilding part the best. And the painting. Since it takes a mess to make a masterpiece, I'd say it will turn out great.

  3. You can come over to my house and do some renovations for me! It's such pain, but the results are so worth it!

    1. Thanks Belle. I should've known better than to try and work too far above my head.

  7. When you're done, Ruth, can you come to my place with your pry bar and work your magic.
I'm still tossing the coin as to whether I should do a complete rebuild or a complete renovation.

I'm looking forward to your "after" pics. And like you, I like the "rebuilding" part too - love painting (just the prep is a pain).

    Have fun, Jenny

    1. I think I will stay home and bask in the glow of having a bedroom with no plaster out of the ceiling.
      I can't afford a rebuild so I don't have to decide.

    1. Gail, It's tough coming up with the moola. That's why we have to wait so long between each project. The insulation was on sale a few years ago and was sitting in the garage waiting for us to come up with the money to do the rest.

  9. We're edging closer and closer to a bathroom remodeling project. Mrs. Penwasser and I visited our local home improvement superstore (no way I give them a free plug) a week ago. She selected the most expensive fixtures (naturally) and sink (yeah, I'M going to install a new sink). I'm still waiting for her to pull the trigger on authorizing the expenditures of a family with two kids in college. Waiting...just waiting.
By the way, watch out for those crowbars.
That'll teach you to drink with flocks of birds.

    1. Al, we did our bathroom about 7 years ago. I'm sure you will do just fine with the sink. Some of those faucets are pricey. I'm too cheap for that.
But... birds are so zany, I can't help it.

    1. Not gonna lie, Karen. I had a little meltdown today. More due to the state of the rest of the house. I cannot find anything or go into certain rooms. I really don't know how messy people can do it.
      You flatter me!

  12. Holy crow, that's a heap of work. At least you got to work with fun tools like pry bars, even if it gave you a slight concussion. If you ask me, demolition is the best part!

Hope your head is feeling better soon!

I did like tearing it apart.
Good as new- I think so.
